Spring has finally come to Washington

2 post

Spring has finally come to Washington.  We are awaiting the biggest event of spring in DC which is the blooming of the cherry blossoms in the Tidal Basin surrounding the Jefferson Memorial.  To make a long story short, it took two women to get things done… In 1885 Ms. Eliza Scidmore returned from a visit to Japan and proposed planting these beautiful trees along the newly reclaimed Potomac waterfront. No one listened to her until 24 years later, when the wife of President Taft took it upon herself to meet with the Japanese consul.

The Japanese government sent over 2,000 cherry trees to be planted.  Unfortunately, the were infested with insects and nematodes and had to be burned.  But finally a new shipload of 3,020  healthy trees arrived on the West coast and were tranpsported to Washington. They were planted and have become a spectacle of pink ethereal beauty every April, celebrated by festivals and a parade. Thousands visit the Tidal Basin to enjoy them in their fleeting beauty. Peak bloom is coming late next week.

My food truck adventure is moving forward.  I have a possible truck to buy which I will see on Monday.  If all goes well, I may be able to start the process of making it my own with a few interior kitchen changes and a paint job and my logo (which has not been selected yet) applied to the exterior.  Keep your fingers crossed.
Trying to make some plans to beautify my balcony. I should be able to do some planting in my pots by my next post and I’ll include some photos.
My daughter has moved from her apartment in downtown Florence to a tiny town called Cavallina outside of the city in order to be closer to her job at Michael Kors in Barberino di Mugello.  (If you visit the outlet, be sure to tell her I sent you!)
That’s it for now from DC. Happy Spring!

  1. you’re in point of fact a just right webmaster. The web site loading velocity is amazing.
It sort of feels that you are doing any unique trick. Moreover, The contents
are masterwork. you’ve performed a wonderful process on this matter!

    1. Thank you! Actually I’m not a webmaster but the owner and the “editor” of this blog. My goal, as freelance journalist and writer, is to mix some very smart women experiences from Italy, Usa and Indonesia. And hosting some rare contributions by very important artists like Giorgia and Laura Pausini. I’ve been working on this project with the webmaster (she’s a woman too) for 4 months and I’m very happy for the results. Thanks again and enjoy!
